[18/12/2009] What maintenance would I need after my website is finished?

You have created a website for your company that captures all the necessary elements and provides information. Not only this, you have services and products to offer and customers can avail of these services or purchase the products. Now that all this is done, do you sit back and wait for the website to do everything? Wrong! Like any other item around you that works for you, its maintenance is equally important. If not, you could have problems on hand or you might not get satisfactory results. Website maintenance services are provided by many companies; it could be a web design-London based company, or a company in New York, Delhi or your local company that created the website for you. Choosing the right company to do your website maintenance depends on your requirements and the budget that you have assigned for this job.

What can maintenance do for your website? Like regular maintenance keeps your bike working in good condition and lets you know which components are to be replaced and how to improve the performance with the latest components, maintenance of your website allows you to capture all the information to augment your sales by knowing all the activity that goes on in your website.

You might believe that your website is attracting a lot of visitors but in reality it might not be so. It would be better to measure the number of visitors to your website. Called website traffic measurement, it is capable of putting a number to your estimation. If the number does not match with your estimates, you might need to look at how to improve on certain things, perhaps the layout, adding more information, spreading awareness about your website among other initiatives.

Once your website has been created, the content should not be kept static. As the company evolves, so should the information provided on the website. Otherwise, the visitor might be learning about nothing new that is happening in your company. It is vital to keep customers updated about changes in the structure of your company, new products or services that have been launched, their features, discounts and offers that customers should immediately avail of, awards that were won in recognition of some initiatives that the company undertook, career opportunities, sales figures that the company projects and/or has achieved. All this makes the company more real in the minds of the customers and retains or increases their interest and thereby increases brand recall value.

You might realize that you need to do some more promotion for your website. Send emails, newsletters; basically anything brings back old customers and new ones to your website. However you realize that despite all your efforts, the number of visitors has not increased dramatically. This could be perhaps because your website does not figure in the top list of searches when searched for by a search engine. Using a Search Engine Optimization service, you could ensure the same. Sometimes you might learn that a link to the payment page has been tampered, resulting in loss of sales. Website maintenance ensures that all this is regularly checked and corrected.

Website maintenance is necessary to keep your website in good working condition and your requirements are met satisfactorily.
