[18/12/2009] Is flash website difficult to update and maintenance?

Though Flash has been used as the most popular and preferred technology in the website designing, it has eventually become a menace for the websites designed for the commercial purposes. Though the websites developed in flash are of great beauty with the visual effects but mostly the websites fail to achieve the minimum criteria to be at par to be business oriented websites.

Some of the major drawbacks to update and maintain flash websites are listed and discussed below:

Embedded Information often invisible to Search Engines:

It is most likely that a website navigator generally begins web browsing through a search engine. The search engines are the most reliable and the popular source of information for anyone to look up at. The search engines scan information on the web to provide relevant data and up to the requirement information to the user. But the texts and the information that are embedded in graphic formats and layouts in cases of flash often makes the search engines fail to scan and fetch the proper information out of the website. As a result the content gets eventually buried under the graphics and visual beauty of the websites.

Flash fails to maintain the standards for usability:

The sites furnished and decorated and powered by flash is obvious to look great but it is mostly found that users while navigating and browsing through the pages often finds that the common icons, supposed to work and function, remain malfunctioning. Often bookmarking and linking the pages are not possible in the flash websites. Even the simple “back” button fails to work in sophisticated neatly visual packaged websites.

Lack of support of platform:

A website is most likely to be popular and appreciated if the respective website can be accessed from any system by using any platform of flash player. Often the users are not equipped with the latest versions of the flash players which eventually results in the non-functioning of a respective website containing high end graphic user interface. This is very common and out of 10 users it is most likely that 7 of the user has faced this problem of updating their flash player to the latest version to view a certain webpage.

Consistent updates require high end flash skills:

Certain websites often require regular updates of information. The websites providing the relevant information with flash designs and effects require a proper developer who is skilled enough to change and update the graphics as well with the update of information on a regular basis. This process is often expensive as tough to cope up with.
