Web design and Web site design are very similar to each other. Both are the branches of the website development. Web site design industry has made remarkable profits in the recent past. It has astonished many market analysts as very few had predicted that this industry would at this level. As the telecommunications industry has developed to a very distinct level there by making communication easy and affordable. This in return has enabled users to access internet frequently for different purposes. And this has fueled the online industry as it’s now economical and affordable.
Like the primitive communications media as telephone and television services have been now renewed with high definition and quality services. The quality has been improved drastically and people are now opting for the best. Employing different technologies has given rise to services as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and IPTV. The traditional Newspapers have been turned to Web sites and blogging. The Internet has enabled or accelerated the creation of new forms of human interactions through instant messaging, Internet forums, and social networking websites.
The origins of the Internet goes back to 1960s when the United States funded research projects of its military agencies to build robust, fault-tolerant and distributed computer networks. The research conducted by the U.S was very secret but later on it was revealed. This research was accepted by worldwide participation in the development of new networking technologies and resulted to the international network. In 2009, one-third of the earth’s population use internet for their several needs.
Hence Web site design and web development is an important part of the World Wide Web. There are many stages of Web site design and content evaluation is one of it. Content evaluation and organization requires that the purpose of the website be clearly defined. Organizing the need of the website and the target audience helps in building an efficient website. In the process of gathering the content being offered, any items that do not support the defined purpose or accomplish target audience objectives should be removed. It’s always desirable to test the needs that are required on the website and when it’s not required it should be removed as it helps in the Web site design. The next step is to organize the basic information structure by categorizing the content and organizing it according to user needs. Each category should be named with a concise and descriptive title that will become a link on the website.
It is desirable to determine the purpose of the website. It helps in the foundation stones of building the website. A purpose statement should show focus based on what the website will accomplish and what the users will get from it. A clear picture would help in defining the requirements and removal of irrelevant content.
