In the primitive time most communication networks were limited by their nature to only allow communications between the stations on the local network. The computer networking method employed central mainframe computer model. Many research programs were conducted to explore different patterns of networking. Principles of networking between physically separated networks resulted to the packet switching model which is a part of digital networking. Several research works were conducted and most popular of them was of the Leonard Kleinrock at MIT and at UCLA. Their research resulted in packet-switched networking solutions in the late 1960s and 1970s. Networking systems gained high popularity along with Unix-to-Unix copy (UUCP).
The spread of internetworking sowed to bean to form into the idea of a global network. This global network was later termed as Internet. Interconnections were quickly implemented across the advanced telecommunication networks of the western world. And later it was spread to the rest of the world. However, the disparity of growth between advanced nations and the third world countries led to a digital divide that is still a concern today.
Private internet service providers were introduced in 1980’s and they made huge sum of money in this business. This also resulted in the electronic mail (e-mail), text based forums, and the World Wide Web. Several innovations came into being since then. The Internet still continues to grow by e-commerce and online industry. And in this century every organization is dependent on websites. It has become their necessity to be a part of this World Wide Web.
A website can be defined as a book of web pages which may include images and videos. A web site is usually hosted on at least one web server which is accessible through a network. A website comprises of several WebPages. A web page is a document, typically written in plain text with several formatting instructions of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML, XHTML). Web pages are accessed and transported with the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) to provide security and privacy for the user of the web page content. All publicly accessible websites collectively constitute the World Wide Web.
The web page of a website is accessed through Uniform Resource Locator (URL) called the homepage. The URLs of the pages hyperlinked to each other. Some websites may have a subscription to access some or all of their content. Examples of subscription sites include many business sites, parts of many news sites, academic journal sites, gaming sites, message boards, web-based e-mail, services, social networking websites, and sites providing real-time stock market data.
There are several parts of designing a website which comes under web development. Web site design plays a vital role as it employs many tools. As many web designing tools have been developed it has enabled customers to design their website for an economical price. Therefore today individuals are trying to create their own web page by using free software’s that are available in the market. Web designing industry has progressed exponentially and is going to next level. Web designing has several stages all stages are equally important. These stages are planning, requirements, audience type, region, budget etc... There are many factors that need to be considered before building a website. Hence a proper planning and implementation is required for building a professional website.
