[26/03/2010] Ipad – The Future of Web Experience

Apple, the world’s largest and most prestigious computer manufacturer has recently launched their Apple iPad, a portable, mobile like device that will enrich users with easy and functional surfing and browsing. The iPad was released on January 27th 2010 in San Francisco, in the shape of a flat tablet which has provided a whole new user interface to web browsing.  The iPad invention has given engineers and designers to get away from creating the usual user interface which is usually filled with loads of unimportant ads and boxes. The iPad eliminates the need of all that unimportant boxes and provides you with enriching web experience. It has a touch screen and a friendly UIS, thus making it very easy to operate but almost impossible to hack. It is determined to become one of the most popular mobile computing devices, but it still cannot be thought of to have the ability to totally take over a computer or a laptop. The iPads will also have various applications of their own, which are currently limited to only in the US.

Despite these positive reviews, though, there are still some things that are lacking in the iPad. For the first, it does not support Adobe Flash; therefore any site that works on these would be useless on the iPad. Other than that there are no USB ports so you cannot connect it to any scanner or printer. However, there will a $30 camera connection kit, which will allow you to connect the machine to the computer. The iPad is meant to hit users who are only interested in media browsing, so other people, who want to run applications in the background, will be dissatisfied, and though this is a disadvantage. It won’t take up much processor time and space in giving bytes to background processes.

The worst part is that the iPad doesn’t have a camera installed neither a webcam, hence making it impossible to use it as a device of communication, especially for a video call. The screen is a flat square which is not very good for watching online movies, so it also doesn’t serve very well on video viewing.

Having said all this, the Apple iPad is still here to rule because of its brand new processor the Apple 1 GHZ processor, which proved to be much active than the regular iPhone, its look, its screen, and its functionality despite these flaws. Though, it doesn’t contain a USB port it has a dock connector, microphone and built in speakers. There is even a built in e-book reader, generally known as the iBooks, that enables you to read e-books either downloaded or bought straight from the iBooks store. Besides that, the iPad also gives you a physical keyboard, other than its default touch screen. Serious and long term users can find the external keyboard a much better option than the touch screen.

Setting off at the price of $500, the iPad was thought to have the ability to take off the computing industry, but because of its flaws and lack of innovation, it still remains as a delicate web browser rather than a full fledged computing system. Hence keeping this in mind, if you are a hardcore web user, then the Apple iPad may not be your thing, other than that, you can have it as a portable companion, whenever you feel the need for living on the web.
