[01/12/2009] Sub domain

Whenever you type the name of a particular site, you will notice that the name is having different modules. For example – mail.example.com, it is having three parts like the structure of a tree, where the main domain is example.com and mail is the subdomain for the same. In the name, calendar.example.com, calendar is the subdomain and rest is the domain name. This is called as the Domain Name System (DNS). The part which is not the subdomain is called as the root domain. In the example mentioned above, com is the top- level domain.

In the name, Wikipedia.org, org is the domain which further contains a subdomain. In the name, en.wikipedia.org, Wikipedia.org is the domain that further contains a subdomain.
