XHTML called as Extensible Mark-up Language. It belongs to family of mark up language or we can say XML mark up languages which are extended versions of Hypertext Markup Language that is used to write web pages. XHTML is XML's application. It is subset of SGML because documents of XHTML need to be well-maintained. XML parsers are used for parsing these documents. W3C recommended it's 1.0 version in January 2006 and XHTML version 1.1 was recommended by the same in September 2006. As of September 2009, XHTML is under development as HTML specification's part. The goal of developing XHTML was increasing interoperability making HTML with various data formats.
